Discipleship is a huge part of our vision here at Sound of Heaven. It is how we as Christians grow to understand both the promises of God and even our own identity. Jesus was the perfect example in that He dedicated His life to pouring into others so that they could fulfill their God Given purpose. This is a mandate for today’s church as well.

Discovering Our Purpose

The Mandate of Discipleship

The Great Commission commands us to go into the world and make disciples.  What does that mean?  Discipleship happens when we follow in the footsteps of Jesus and choose to help our brothers and sisters in their walk with God.  God didn’t call us to journey alone.  We are meant to pray together, study together and stand together through both good and difficult times. At Sound of Heaven, we offer a 12 week Discipleship Program where both you and someone (who has already been through it) will meet to discuss the foundational principals of Christianity.  It is designed for everyone.  So if you are not a Christian, but curious, a brand new christian or been in church since Old Testament times (that was a joke), this is a rewarding 12 week commitment that will enhance your relationship with God.  Contact us for further details and requirements.

Discipleship in Scripture

Lives are transformed through godly discipleship.  It is an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, be accountable to one another and grow together in our walks with God.  Here are some scriptures related to discipleship.

“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

2 Tim 2:2

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

John 8:31-32

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”

Matt 28:19-20

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:34-35
